 April 11, 1924 – March 16, 2014

Another one of our old friends has left us.

Long time modeler and SRQ member John E. King died Sunday March 16, 2014 after a long illness.

John was a friend to all and his modeling experience included his opening of one of the early hobby shops in Sarasota on the South Trail.

A veteran of the US Army, John was wounded during the invasion of Normandy, France on D-Day, June 6, 1944, and received the Purple Heart. He served the remainder of his Army career at bases in Europe at the end of World War II John and his wife Betty moved to Sarasota in 1950 and raised four children, Jim, Penny, Amy, and Nikki. Not surprisingly, John and Betty's family grew to include grandchildren and great grandchildren.

John's career as a leading designer and builder of residential properties earned him the trust and respect of many in the construction industry here in Sarasota County.

A memorial service is scheduled at 2:30 pm at the Sarasota National Cemetery this Friday, March 28.Our heartfelt condolences go out to John's wife Betty and family as we remember a fine gentleman and fellow pilot.

God Speed and Happy Landings, John!

Jim Martin
